As we continue to call out to God for revival, all I feel in return is a greater call to devotional intimacy with Jesus in our personal time. It’s not any clearer than the Bridegroom speaking to the Shulammite Bride in ‭‭SONG OF SOLOMON‬ ‭2:14‬ (‭AMP‬‬)
““O my dove, [here] in the clefts in the rock, In the sheltered and secret place of the steep pathway, Let me see your face, Let me hear your voice; For your voice is sweet, And your face is lovely.””
We as the bride of Christ are being called up to an elevated and intimate secret place in the Lord. Making the journey through the wilderness and up the rocky mountain (high place of devotion) is a steep and difficult pathway that we can easily slip back down because of distractions but there’s so much more for us as we continue to press on in our journey to find more of our Bridegroom. Getting up earlier or finding time for ourselves to enter into that secret place, that quiet time, to fellowship with the Lord in intimacy is the most important thing for us in order for revival to take place in us and to see the glory of God. As my wife Tara said, “It may not be easy but the view is worth it!”
Moses was very familiar with the presence of God at the tent of meeting. The pillar of cloud would stand there and the Lord would speak to him. All the people of Israel congregated to hear the word of the Lord but there was so much more available. In Exodus 33:18, Moses asked the Lord, “Please, show me Your glory!”
Then in verses 21-23, the LORD said, “Behold, there is a place beside Me, and you shall stand there on the rock; and while My glory is passing by, I will put you in a cleft of the rock and protectively cover you with My hand until I have passed by. Then I will take away My hand and you shall see My back; but My face shall not be seen.””
The cleft of the rock represents that glory filled, intimate, secret place that the Lord is calling us to. It is filled with all the goodness of God. The Lord is calling us to so much more than going to the place of meeting to feel His presence and hear the word spoken. Jesus has opened up access for us all to come boldly to Him and know Him through prayer, scripture, and the voice of Holy Spirit. As we all are revived to secret place encounters, we will all carry the glory back to the place of meeting and the body of Christ will be fully functioning! The amount of glory and supernatural encounters that we are looking for in corporate revival can only come from the revival sparked in our hearts for more time with Him in private.
Devotion is not just the secret place and quiet time, although that time is extremely important, but also awareness of what Holy Spirit is saying and doing at all times. As we go through life and especially when we are walking through the wilderness, attacks from the enemy will come against us, things will come our way that frustrate us, and injustices we don’t understand will be seen. Many times we try to fix things and take care of them ourselves but it is our love affair with Jesus that moves Him to show us what we are really going through and help us know how to handle it the right way. Psalm 73 speaks of the advancement of the wicked but verse 17 says,
Until I came into the sanctuary of God, then I perceive their end. Verses 25-28, “Whom have I in heaven but You? And besides You, I desire nothing on earth. My flesh and my heart may fail, But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. For, behold, those who are far from You will perish; You have destroyed all those who are unfaithful to You. But as for me, the nearness of God is my good; I have made the Lord GOD my refuge, That I may tell of all Your works.”
From the elevated perspective of God, we can see the outcome of those around us, the trials we are going through and see in the Spirit what we are battling. We can be taken to a high place in the Spirit were the enemy can’t survive as we soar above our circumstances. From this point, we can seek the Lord for the protection we need and find the help, comfort, and rest we need from Holy Spirit.
Psalm 91 also speaks of living in the secret place for protection. “He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High Will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the LORD, “My refuge and my fortress, My God, in whom I trust!” For it is He who delivers you from the snare of the trapper And from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with His pinions, And under His wings you may seek refuge; His faithfulness is a shield and bulwark.” Psalms 91:1-4
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭91:11-15
“For He will give His angels charge concerning you, To guard you in all your ways. They will bear you up in their hands, That you do not strike your foot against a stone. You will tread upon the lion and cobra, The young lion and the serpent you will trample down. “Because he has loved Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him securely on high, because he has known My name. “He will call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭91:11-15‬ ‭NASB‬‬
I also see spiritual warfare being done in the secret place in a new way. By relying on God to protect us in the comfort of His love, we also move his heart to do battle for us. I believe that being in such a deep relationship with Jesus as His bride, His heart is so deeply moved he can’t help but want to go fight for us. There are so many stories in the bible that show God taking care of the battle when the Israelites were obedient to following His will. I am looking to walk so close to the Lord that He can hear me whisper and I can hear His still, small voice as a gentle whisper as well. (1 Kings 19:12 NIV)
